Art 1 is all about the process and the journey
Art 1 is designed for students who have had limited or no prior preparation in art. The course is taught exactly the same by all four art teachers here at James Island Charter High School. This course includes an introduction to a variety of art making materials, processes and techniques through the study of contemporary and historical works of art.
- Students will look at the works of others, make judgements about how it was made and what it means based on their own experiences and what they see.
- Students will generate ideas to make personal artworks through thumbnail and full page sketch drawings and by experimenting with traditional and new art materials and techniques.
- Students will use art elements, design principles and art materials to communicate their ideas.
- Students will develop, revise, refine and complete the work by the deadline given.
- Students will reflect on the success of their works in verbal class critiques and be given an opportunity to refine their works at home before final grading.
- Students will present their work by writing artist statements which will be published alongside images of works in BLOGS and by actual works in exhibits on campus for the school and community.
